Summer Courtyard Wedding at DAI

A Summer Wedding at The Dayton Art Institute

If you’re planning a wedding and thinking, “How do we make this feel like us?” - this is your sign to stop playing it safe with your timeline.

This summer wedding at the Dayton Art Institute did exactly that. Instead of treating cocktail hour like a filler moment between ceremony and reception, this couple turned it into a meaningful, immersive experience for their guests.

This is the kind of intentional planning that takes a wedding from pretty to unforgettable.

Historic architecture. Clean, elegant lines. Natural light that photographers dream about. And spaces that can flex between soft and airy or dramatic and moody depending on your vibe. But the real standout? The courtyard.

It’s the kind of space that feels tucked away and intimate, while still giving “European summer wedding energy.” Which is exactly why this couple leaned all the way in.

Instead of rushing guests through cocktail hour, the couple designed it.

The courtyard became their dedicated happy hour space - not just drinks and passed apps, but a full-on experience layered with intention.

Here’s where it gets really special: The bride’s grandmother was one of the first students in the art program at the Dayton Art Institute. So the couple chose to display select pieces of her artwork throughout the courtyard during cocktail hour.

Guests weren’t just mingling — they were walking through a personal gallery, connecting with the bride’s family history in a way that felt natural, elevated, and incredibly meaningful.

This is what we mean when we say your wedding should tell your story.

The Design: Soft Florals + Meadow-Inspired Magic

Florals were giving effortless romance in the best way.

Think:

  • Soft, airy textures
  • Organic movement
  • That “just-picked-from-a-meadow” feel (but make it luxury)

The meadow trend is having a moment right now — and when it’s done right like this, it doesn’t feel trendy. It feels timeless.

Paired with the architecture of the museum and the openness of the courtyard, everything balanced beautifully. Nothing felt overdone. Nothing felt forced.

Just elevated, intentional design that let the setting (and the story) shine.
